We are delighted to hear that two of our Upper Sixth bursary students Owen R and Sophia A, have been awarded the vice-chancellors music scholarship at Durham University. Greatly deserved this is a fantastic example of how Brentwood bursaries can deliver a fantastic school experience, nurturing talent and ultimately setting students up for success as they move beyond Brentwood.

Florian Cooper - Director of Music and Performing Arts spoke of his pride at their achievement:

"Both Owen and Sophia have been utterly committed musicians and model Brentwood School students for 7 years and have, in many ways, been the backbone of our thriving department. They truly understand the value of the opportunity they have been given and make the most of every single day at school. They have been seminal in hundreds of concerts at the school, between them led a multitude of school ensembles and choirs and their legacy lies in the countless young musicians who have been inspired by their excellence, their kindness and their willingness to share the passion and skill with the wider school community. I am so proud of what they, and many other young bursary holder musicians achieve on a daily basis. That their hard work has been rewarded with such a prestigious  scholarship for tertiary education is testament to their immense musical ability and their potential as true leaders"

We also spoke to Sophia to find out more about an unforgettable seven years at Brentwood School:

"During the last seven years, I have developed a strong passion for music as a music scholar here at Brentwood. The opportunities that have been afforded to me are nothing short of world-class, offering me a wealth of transferable skills, and the support and mentorship of the music department has been integral to my development as a student and musician alike. Such is my love for music that I have decided to continue my musical journey at Durham University, where I was privileged to be awarded a Vice Chancellor’s Music Scholarship."

I am sure you will join us in congratulating Owen and Sophia - we are increduibly proud of them and can't wait to see what they will do next!
