The Willis Museum was officially opened last night with a small gathering of Old Brentwoods, teachers, former teachers, staff and friends attending for a first look at the impressive collection of Brentwood memorabilia housed in the old stable block next to Newnum House.
In his opening remarks Headmaster Michael Bond talked about the different aims of the museum: to respect, cherish, and learn from those who have gone before us, to provide a way for friends of the school to connect and for Old Brentwoods to reconnect with us, and a means by which we can bring the school’s rich and extensive history to life for current and future pupils.
He went on to express the intention that the space would be very much a living evolving one as we seek to grow our archives, capturing recollections of the past from former pupils, current and former parents, Governors and staff members as well as engaging members of the local community so they can learn more about the school that has been at the heart of Brentwood for almost 500 years.
Mr Bond ended by raising a toast to Mike Willis, the ‘one of a kind’ History and Politics teacher who inspired so many Old Brentwoods to write in suggesting the museum be named in his honour.
We look forward to welcoming members of the Association for regular visits from June. Please check this page for opening times and to register.
