Nancy Bixby passed away peacefully at home on 28th January 2025. She came to Brentwood in 1995 to cover maternity leave, then spent a few years teaching in Kenya, before returning to Brentwood in 2001-2019 as a Teacher of Art, and then as Head of the Department.
Nancy was a gifted and dedicated teacher who loved to inspire the students. She was the accompanying artist on one of the England Cricket Team's International Tours to New Zealand and this work was shown at an exhibition at Lord's. Please see below the lovely painting of hers of Ian Botham, playing a pull shot at the iconic ground. You might also find it interesting to look at her website nancybixby.co.uk.
As per Nancy's wishes, she is not going to have a traditional funeral. Instead her family are going to scatter her ashes next summer in a beautiful setting selected by Nancy, followed by a family party to celebrate her life.
She was a wonderful teacher, who will be dearly missed by all that knew her. A date is being looked at for a service where many people can attend to celebrate her life, which will likely be later in the Lent Term.
