Graham Scott died on the 18th October 2024 aged 74 at his home in Sylvania, Ohio. He joined the school in West House in 1962. He and I became great friends after meeting in our A Level Maths class in 1966 and continued to speak and meet, both in the USA and UK, regularly until his death.
Graham was always a keen motorsport enthusiast and his ambition was always to get into the world of motor racing. After leaving school he studied engineering at City University sponsored by Ford. In 1973, he got a job with the fledgling Penske Formula 1 team, and after a couple of years joined the March Formula 1 team. In 1976, he moved to Canada and worked for local team in Toronto where he helped give a very young Gilles Villeneuve a break in single seater racing, Gilles went on to race in Formula 1 for McLaren and Ferrari. Graham then moved to Connecticut where he ran a team that launched the career of Bobby Rahal, who later went on to win the Indianapolis 500. His next move was to Michigan where he joined Doug Shierson Racing who one of the leading teams in Indy Car Racing. Graham then retired from motor racing and joined first Ford and then ZF-TRW specialising in brake and suspension engineering. He was still working as a consultant before his death.
Graham was married twice, having three children with his first wife. He had only been remarried for three years before his death which occurred after a period of illness.
He and I enjoyed 58 years of friendship, sharing a love of motorsport, travelling and most importantly having fun.
