The Society of Old Brentwoods is managed by the Society’s Board, which is elected each year at the AGM. The AGM is traditionally held at the School on OBs Day, this year on Saturday, 11 September 2021.
The Board comprises a Chairperson, the current President and President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer (in charge of the Finance Team), Editor (who assists in providing information and articles for insertion in the Brentwood School Times), Elected Trustee (one of the four trustees in whose names the assets of the Society are vested), Membership Secretary (in charge of membership records and communicating with members of the Society), School Liaison Officer (liaison between the Society and the School) and up to six Elected Board Members. A list detailing the current composition of the Board is on page 26 of the latest edition of Brentwood School Times - available along with the OB Rules & Constitution in the Resources Section of the Portal at https://www.oldbrentwoods.com/resources. Anyone who is a member of the Society (which includes all alumni) is eligible to be elected to the Board.
The Board is looking for candidates to join the Board, both for specific positions and as an Elected Board Member. The positions of Chairperson, Secretary and School Liaison Officer will become vacant and need to be filled at the forthcoming AGM and new candidates for the Elected Board Member positions will also be welcomed. The Board hopes to have a greater diversity of members but can only achieve this if relevant volunteers put themselves forward for election.
The Board usually meets four times a year. The Board plays an influential role on liaising with the School and its alumni to promote the membership of the Society and the involvement of alumni in functions and events promoted by the Society and the School. The Board has ultimate control over the management of the excellent sporting and social facilities at Ashwells Road (the day to day operation of which is delegated to the OB Club Committee). In the past year, the Board has authorised and overseen some extensive renovations to the clubhouse bar and lounge area and the appointment of a new management team at the club. Not only has the clubhouse been modernised but the management of the clubhouse and grounds has been streamlined to enhance the enjoyment of those using the facilities.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the management and future of the Society, please contact the current Secretary, Alastair McIlwraith by email ajmcilwraith@btinternet.com or phone 07825 378627. Alastair will be able to provide further information on each of the roles and the election process.
