Around 30 miles of the journey was swum, 1,211 cycled and 404 run/walked.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - 06/06/22

On Friday 3rd June, Jerry reached the gates of Kyiv! 1,645 miles completed in 12 weeks and five days, four weeks ahead of schedule! 

Jerry wanted to pass on his thanks to you all for your support, your interest and your encouragement. "Whatever we've raised together is going to a fantastic cause and I'm really grateful to you all."

PROGRESS UPDATE - 11/05/22

From Uttoxeter to Kiev
Jerry Gear’s 1,645 mile journey to raise money for the people of Ukraine continues.  He’s now into his eighth week and is covering an average of 138 miles each week, mostly on his Watt bike, but also swimming, running and walking.  So with just over 1,111 miles completed, he’s currently travelling through Poland!

At the current rate his challenge will be completed in another four weeks and if you would like to sponsor him, you can do so through The Rotary Club of Uttoxeter:  60-22-09 account number 8846 6825.  Please mark your contribution “Jerry’s Journey”.  Every penny raised will go to the people of Ukraine.

OB Jerry Gear (1975-79) has embarked on a fundraising journey – locally and mostly cycling in his garage! – to raise much needed funds to help the Ukraine crisis. His note, below, explains:

“Like you, I am sure, I have been deeply saddened by the situation in Ukraine.  My heart goes out to the people who have had their lives torn apart in such a terrible way and I have been asking myself what I can do to support them.

So I have decided to cover the distance from Uttoxeter to Kiev, 1,645 miles through a combination of cycling, swimming, running and walking.  The target is to travel at least 100 miles each week.

So far he has covered 564 miles in four weeks, so is a third of the way there and currently due to finish a week ahead of schedule. We are certain that he would appreciate any support that fellow OBs can offer.
