Brentwood School Foundation's Transformational Trophy tees off in style!

The 2nd October 2024 marked the inaugural ‘Transformational Trophy’ Foundation Golf Day. Hosted by Heron Country Club and supported by Winged Boots, this was the Foundation’s first two 1622 Corporate partners generously leading by example.

The event brought together Old Brentwoods, current parents, and some friends of the school, all in the name of the Foundation and the work to provide life changing bursaries to young people. Indeed, it was last month, in September, that the Winged Boots and Heron Country Club bursary students began Sixth Form having been awarded the opportunity by the direct support of our corporate sponsors funding their full transformative bursaries.

The day kicked off with a warm welcome in the Garden Room at the impressive Heron Country Club, where attendees enjoyed a delightful breakfast before heading out to the course. Rain had threatened to derail proceedings but thankfully the skies cleared in time for 32 golfers to take on the Heron and Hawk (the two signature nine holes). Participants found a course beautifully presented, despite the recent heavy rain, and with a two tee start all eight tee times were soon out on the course.

Competing as teams there was also a “beat the teacher” par 3 – thank you to Neil Turnbull for being the teacher to beat! As well as the usual nearest pin and long drive challenge. However, it was the prospect of being the first ever winning team of the Transformational Trophy that represented the days biggest prize, and congratulations to the team of Leon Hunter, Tony Occleshaw, Seb Wagner and Terry Oldfield, who returned an impressive 86 points, narrowly winning on countback against the class team of Sheringham, Smith, Manna and Holland, to lift the trophy. With significant Winged Boots vouchers as prizes it is assumed the winners can be found celebrating in warmer climates with a drink in hand.

Following golf an excellent buffet was laid on by The Heron, as everyone socialised over post round drinks and stories. It was touching hearing from Russell Bartlett and David Ox (both Old Brentwoods) on their respective stories and motivations for supporting the Foundation through the 1622 Corporate partnership. Both highlighted the transformative impact a Brentwood School education had on their own lives, and that in their positions now felt compelled to pay forward that opportunities for others who would otherwise not have the means. Combine their words with having two of our current students there as ‘Bursary Ambassadors’ it is hoped the event offered a very tangible insight to the truly life changing impact of bursaries.

We thank all those who attended, and are grateful such a busy and successful group of the Brentwood School community made time for the day and contributed to its success. We would like this to be the first of many such events, and for those involved, for it to be just the start of their involvement and support.

Please get in touch if you’d like to be at the next Foundation golf day, musical event, drinks or celebrations – collectively it will can be hugely powerful what we can achieve as a community – and it should, of course, be fun in the process!
