Is there a discrepancy in this copy of The Scientian: The Journal of the New Science Society, dated December 1952? The copy is a bit faded, however, the Editorial says it is "the first of a series" yet it appears to be numbered as Edition 2 ........ can anyone throw any light on this and/or does anyone have a copy of No.1?
This is a new addition to the School Archives and the first to be donated, without which there would still be no record of it. Supervised by masters at the time, Brian Tymms (who was the first President of this Society) and Sid Bergin, it was formed for the benefit boys in the Middle and Upper School and provided a fortnightly talk or film to provide a source of scientific knowledge. The Editor also made it known that the magazine would "campaign for and promote a more widespread teaching of science fare which were considered inadequate for a school of this size."
