Brief description of your path after Brentwood
After graduating from Brentwood, I pursued further education at UCL and obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. Graduating in 1998 amidst the Asia Financial Crisis made it challenging to secure a job. I am thankful to my parents for supporting my master's degree at LSE in operational research, which I completed in 1999. Following that, I travelled through Europe for 6 months before returning to Hong Kong in 2000 to kick-start my career.
How has your career path led you to where you are now?
In 2000, despite the internet bubble, I was fortunate to secure a position at UBS (then SBC Warburgp) as a proprietary trader. Subsequently, I transitioned to roles as a fund manager at State Street Global Advisors and Blackrock. My journey led me to become the Group Managing Director at Value Partners Group, and in 2021, I joined Raffles Family Office as their Deputy Group CEO, overseeing their Investment team, company strategy, and corporate governance.
Did you develop any particular skills or attributes at Brentwood that have helped your career?
My time at Brentwood School, especially in boarding school, equipped me with invaluable problem-solving and strategic thinking skills. The boarding experience taught me to take responsibility for resolving issues and dealing with diverse personalities, which has been instrumental in my professional life.
Favourite Brentwood memory
My favorite memory from Brentwood was the camaraderie with my boarding school mates. The friendships formed during those years have lasted over 35 years, and we still make it a point to meet whenever I visit London.
Any words of advice for those graduating this year?
